At Sahara Behind the Scenes

How It’s Made | The Story of Our Hemp Collection

Article By Sahara .

Aug 23, 2018

Hemp once again has a starring role in our beautiful new Autumn Collection. Included for this season are a selection of superbly soft foundational pieces made from a unique blend of organic cotton and hemp. Discover the story behind how sustainable hemp is made and why we chose to create a range of key pieces using this brilliantly versatile fabric…

Lightweight, breathable and wonderfully soft to the touch, the designs in our new collection are crafted from a unique blend of organic cotton and hemp, which are accented with seam detailing, lightly laundered for a relaxed look, and carefully garment-dyed in a range of transitional hues of earthy eucalyptus, meadow green and vibrant coral.
Our designers opted to showcase the versatility of hemp as a material, creating a collection of tactile pieces in essential everyday silhouettes for relaxed day wear.
We take our commitment to ethical fashion seriously and natural fibres provide an important foundation for Sahara’s sustainability and ethical practice.
Working with a ‘closed-loop’ factory in Qingdao, China, the hemp is grown, spun, knitted and dyed all in a single location, before it’s transformed into high quality Sahara garments ready to be worn and loved. The factory champions environmentally-friendly practices and employs local staff, directly influencing the local community.
From panelled hempjersey tops with seam detailing to casual dresses and button-down shirts, the organic cotton and hemp pieces in our collection are lightweight, perfect for layering in the approaching cooler months, or great on their own for warmer days.
Discovering, developing and working with new ethically-crafted fabrics is central to the Sahara design process and we hope that you will love our hemp pieces as much as we loved creating them.
