You may have noticed the word podcast appearing left, right and centre. Maybe at the end of your favourite BBC Radio 4 show, or perhaps dotted about the supplements of your favourite broadsheet. Whether you’re a podcast aficionado, or you’re yet to dive in, we explore this new boundary in broadcasting and recommend some of the finest out there to get you started.

What Is A Podcast?
Put quite simply, a podcast is an audio programme that you can either download onto a device such as a smartphone or tablet, or listen to on your internet browser. Think of it like a radio show whose episodes you can download and listen to whenever and wherever you like, for free.
How Do I Get Started?
All you need is a connection to the internet, either via your computer, smartphone or tablet. Most smartphones and tablets have an in-built podcast platform which makes getting started even easier. For a full podcast tutorial, this excellent article on The Guardian’s website is the ideal step-by-step guide.
Once you’re set up, we’ve put together a list of some of our most-loved podcasts, at turns inspiring, illuminating and always entertaining.
